So, 'dead ringer' is literally the same as 'exact duplicate'. It first came into use soon after the word ringer itself, in the US at the end of the 19th century. The earliest reference I can find that confirms the 'exact duplicate' meaning is from the Oshkosh Weekly Times, June , in a court report of a man charged with being 'very drunk'.

The Hanker guys know their influences and they crafted an album in The Dead Ringer that pays tribute to them and also builds upon them to make something new and fascinating. I don’t think this style of obscure US-style heavy metal can ever truly get old, as there are countless ways to reinvent it with a new twist, to fit it with a new concept.

"'Snakes And Ladders' is way superior to 'The Dead Ringer'. This is just pure HANKER with a better production." We are thinking about a video and a tour somewhere for the summer " We did a demo video with the song 'Disturbing The Brain', a HANKER classic. We got some airplay on Much Music in Toronto, but none in Montréal.".
